Campaign against Child Marriage Declared Back
The year for campaign against child marriage was declared at a press conference at Press Club, Gulbarga, on 11 June 2014 by Pallavi Akurathi IAS (Managing Director, GESCOM, Gulbarga). Speaking on the occasion, she said that child marriage is considered by experts as the major reason for the rise in maternity mortality rate in Gulbarga. Children are deprived of their childhood and become vulnerable to various forms of exploitation. She invited everyone to join hands with Don Bosco in the crusade against this social evil.

‘The Champion of Child Rights’ award was conferred on Sridevi Biradar (PSI, Mahila Police Station, Gulbarga), Tippanna Sirsagi (CDPO, Gulbarga Rural) and Pappamma Habalkar (Asst. CDPO, Gulbarga) for their significant contribution towards the promotion of child rights. Minchu, CD containing songs for the promotion of child rights, was released by Sridevi Biradar. The state level report of CREAM and posters on child rights were released by Tippanna Sirsagi, and Pappamma Habalkar respectively. Fr. Jaimon SDB (Director, Don Bosco), staff members and representatives from child rights clubs participated in the programme.
